    Secret Unicorn Level

There is actually a secret unicorn level. You will need a set of items to active it. There are also some steps that need to be taken.

Here is the list of items.

Black Mushroom – Found rarely in a room on Cathedral level one.
Wirt’s Cowbell – Act II vendor sells it for 100,000 gold.
Liquid Rainbow – Spawns in the Mysterious Cave in the Mysterious Chest in the Oasis, Act 2. Save the old man and he will open the chest.
Gibbering Gemstone – Random drop from Chiltara in the Caverns of Frost, Act 3. It’s in the Ballistae fight area. If you get Ice Caverns exit out try again. The mob is random.
Leoric’s Shinbone – Found rarely in the fireplace in Leoric’s Manor.
Plan: Staff of Herding – To teach the recipe to Haedrig. Drops randomly from Izual, Act 4.

Can someone help fill in the blanks? After you get all the stuff, where do you go? I heard you had to go to some dead cow somewhere.

Here is a video for the secret unicorn level.

You have to create that staff @ the Blacksmith with those materials, I think the crafting costs 50,000gold. When you get the staff, you must find one of the city guards out of the city @ Act I. Its not that hard hes dead nearly a glowing rift. You use the staff on him and there goes some talking then u're ready to go.

I haven't thought about this level in while. Last time I did was before I got the game. But now that this thread got brought back up...I REALLY want to kill some unicorns. Lol.

To anyone considering gathering all the ingredients to assemble the Staff of Herding and get to Whimsyshire (aka unicorn or pony level), I recommend joining a friend's game where Whimsyshire is unlocked instead.

The reason is that the cost of creating the Staff is quite high, and the monetary value of running through Whimsyshire is not typically great enough to pay back your cost. For instance, to get to the Hell difficulty version of Whimsyshire, it will cost you roughly 700,000 gold, but the Whimsyshire area is so small and contains so few packs of rares/elites that you can't get five full marks of Nephalem Valor before you reach the end. In fact, I'm typically only able to get 2-3 marks of valor before all the monsters are dead. If you're looking to make some money it makes more sense to run through Acts I-IV rather than Whimsyshire because you are able to get all five stacks and keep killing more monsters for gold and item drops.

For those not in the know, when your character is at level 60 a mark of Nephalem Valor (i.e. a buff) is awarded to you each time you kill a rare mob or pack of elite (champion) mobs. The marks can stack up to five times, and each mark gives you +15% magic and gold find, thus increasing your chances of finding more gold and better items. When you have them stacked five times, you have an added +75% magic and gold find. These marks are erased however when you do one of three things: leave the game, change your skills/abilities, wait 30 minutes in-game without killing another rare or elite. For the full details, read on at the D3 wiki page: Nephalem Valor - Diablo 3 Wiki

The only reward is getting access to the area and a chance to drop The Horadric Hamburger.

    Question

So I have all 5 ingredients, and I purchased the plans from the vendor in Bastion's Keep. Do I also need to get the drop from Izual? I have killed him about 15 times now on Nightmare and have yet to get it...and everything I have read leads me to believe it should be a pretty common drop. Haedrig has been taught the recipe that I purchased from vendor, but it shows that I need to have the staff as an ingredient...

    Steindog99,

im sure you have all this info anyway , but it is below just for ref.

keep on trying you will get there

Leroic's Shinbone Act: 1 - Found Inside of the fireplace in Leroic's Manor (Click on the burnt logs)

The Black Mushroom Act: 1 - Found in the cathedral, most commonly floor 1 (Click mushroom pile)

Liquid Rainbow Act: 2 - Inside of a mysterious cave in act 2 (Dahlgur Oasis)

Wirt's Bell Act: 2 - Bought for 100,000 gold from Squirts in the Act 2 Bazaar

Gibbering Gemstone Act: 3 - Drops from Chiltara in the Caves of Frost(Found after Bridge of Korsikk)

Plans: Staff of Herding Act: 4 The recipe to craft the staff is a drop from Izual (Act 4 Boss)
Once all 6 items are obtained, open the window of your blacksmith and right click the pattern to learn it, you can now craft it under the weapon section.

Now that it is crafted, you must visit The Ghost of the Cow king on Old Tristram Road in Act 1, he will have a brief dialog with you and then open the path to Whimsyshire, the magical land of rainbows and ponies.
